Mission

Historically, Technology and Computer Science have been male-dominated fields. Our goal is to close the gap between men and women in the technology and computer science industry. We genuinely care for and want to help our members excel in, or learn more about, the tech field.

We recognize that an increase in diversity will inspire creativity and innovation. Therefore, our organization drives to create a diverse community that supports the advancement of womxn and underrepresented minorities.

Women, Men, and Non-Binary can join. All allies of womxn in tech are welcome to our events and to serve as board members.

Purpose

We aim to make a positive impact in the Computer Science community at Hunter and serve as a support group for students. We create events and opporunities to help our members develop their technical skills, secure opportunities, and fortify the confidence in their chosen careers. Developing the technical and interpersonal skills required for transiting into the tech industry after graduation is difficult but, we, at WiCS are here to support your journey.

Initiatives

Skills Development

We organize many events/workshops to provide opportunities for our members to build their skills and learn different fields in tech.

Through our events/workshops, we allow our members to work on their soft and hard skills, which will eventually, help them land internships in the industry/field that they want.

Networking

We organize a lot of social events to provide networking opportunities for our members.

By creating this space, we are allowing our members to socialize and learn from not only one another, but also professionals from industries and fields that our members are interested in.

Hackathon

We organize an annual hackathon for our members during the Fall semester, typically in collaboration with other tech clubs.

Through our hackathons, our members will learn to collaborate, enhance their skills, and expand their network. This opportunity will help members meet others with the same interest and help add ot their portfolio.

Company Events

We organize on events with professionals and of the best companies in Manhattan to provide a learning experience of the company/field.

Through these events, members will have the opportunity to network with professionals, learn about a field/company, and help determine if it is the right fit for them.

Resources

We provide our members with resources and lists of internship/job opportunities available.

Through our biweekly resource newsletters and email blasts, members get informed of different types of opportunities. Resources include mentorships, workshops, panels, and outside events.
